The boss of fast fashion online retailer Boohoo has insisted its clothing brands are “not throwaway”. In an exclusive interview with BBC Radio 5 Live’s Wake Up to Money podcast, John Lyttle said Boohoo had a “clear strategy” for being more sustainable.

Boohoo’s online-only business model helps the company cut out the high costs associated with operating brick and mortar stores. The company keeps most of its operations in the UK, which allows it to produce clothes faster than its competitors with shorter operating times.

Where do Boohoo get their clothes from?

More than half of Boohoo’s garments are produced in the UK, especially Leicester, London, and Manchester. Boohoo buys 75\%–80\% of the clothing produced in Leicester. This was made possible when other retailers such as ASOS reduced the amount they sourced from Leicester over concerns about working conditions.

Are Boohoo and PrettyLittleThing the same?

The middle son, Umar, continues to run the PrettyLittleThing brand. Boohoo took a 66\% stake in the brand in 2017 and bought the remaining stake in May for £269.8million. Analysts describe PrettyLittleThing as “the jewel in Boohoo’s crown.”

Why is Boohoo so bad?
