How do you get accepted into Job Corps?
To be eligible for Job Corps, participants must meet the following requirements:
- Be between 16 and 24 years old.
- Be a legal U.S. resident.
- Be economically disadvantaged (receiving welfare or food stamps)
- Live in an area with high crime rates, limited job opportunities, or a disruptive home life.
How long is Job Corp program?
18 months
At Job Corps, you learn at your own pace. Depending on the career area you choose and the learning pace you set for yourself. Our most successful Job Corps students remain in the program for at least 18 months to gain the knowledge and social skills needed for a new career.
Do they pay you at Job Corps?
Do I get paid while I am at Job Corps? Throughout your training, you will receive a bi-weekly basic living allowance. As your training progresses, your living allowance will increase. After you graduate, Job Corps can help you get started on your journey with a transition allowance.
How often do you get paid at Job Corps?
Job Corps pays you a living allowance in cash twice a month. New and readmitted students receive arrival pay in the amount of a $25. After that, the amount of your base pay depends on the number of days you are eligible for payment. For days 1-182, you receive $25 every two weeks.
Can you live at Job Corps?
Live. Most Job Corps students live on our campuses. Your child will likely be assigned to live and train at the center closest to home. Some centers, however, have a non-residential option that allows students to live at home during training.
Does Job Corps do drug tests?
Once Job Corps accepts you all new trainees must undergo a drug test.
Do you get drug tested at Job Corps?
Job Corps uses urinalysis to conduct drug tests on their students. This means that the urine samples of the students are tested for the remnants of drugs.

- Create and commit to a Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP) with the help of Job Corps staff.
- Visit and learn about American Job Centers / One-Stop Centers.
- Learn and practice personal responsibility skills required at the workplace.
- Learn, demonstrate, and practice job search skills.
How much is the allowance at Job Corps?
The living allowance (i.e., pay) is based on stay duration (e.g., up to 56 days is $25/pay period or two weeks, 57-112 days is $30/pay period, 113-182 is $40/pay period and 183+ days at $50/pay period).
Do you get a roommate at Job Corps?
Most centers offer separate male and female dormitories. Depending on the center, you can have anywhere from one to eight roommates. Job Corps values diversity and will provide you with opportunities to live and interact with people of many different backgrounds.
