Why is there an entrance to Mount Doom?
Mount Doom is very well protected. Sauron believes that no one can break into Mordor at all, and he is nearly right. He can’t imagine anyone getting past Shelob, and the mountains are otherwise impassable and the Black Gate is closed.
Why can Mount Doom destroy the ring?
