Are Prismacolor pencils oil or wax based?
The Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils were not designed for use on fabric. Since they are waxed based pencils, they probably won’t hold up to washing and drying; however, some of the pigments used in the colored pencils MAY stain clothing.
Which is better oil or wax colored pencils?
Since wax-based pencils are softer than oil-based pencils, the cores tend to break easily. The core of oil-based colored pencils are a bit harder than wax-based pencils, making them less susceptible to breakage. For this same reason, the pencil keeps a sharper point for a longer period of time.
Can you mix oil and wax pencils?
Technically, you can indeed mix professional-quality colored pencils with “normal” ones, in that they will blend together and you can layer one top of the other, etc – but you will be compromising the longevity of your colored pencil artwork.
Can I use white spirit instead of Gamsol?
While Artist’s White Spirit can be used to clean oil painting brushes, we would advise using low odour White Spirits such as Gamsol, Low Odour Solvent, Shellsol T and Sansodor in painting mediums. Gamsol has so little odour for a white spirit. It’s definitely worth the extra investment if you are sensitive to fumes.
Can I use mineral spirits instead of Gamsol?
Well, they are not equivalent, since they are quite truly not the same “stuff”. Distilled Spirits of Gum Turpentine comes from pine trees, while Odorless Mineral Spirits are distillates of petroleum, which comes from an oil well.
What can I use instead of Prismacolor Premier pencils?
Nevertheless, an alternative to using the Prismacolor Premier pencils is to use the limited palette of 48 Prismacolor Art Stix. The Prismacolor Artstix are blocks of coloured core without any timber casing, therefore, they don’t provide the same detail as a coloured pencil. But they are great for laying colour on a sheet of paper.
Are all wax-based pencils soft or hard?
A rock-hard wax-based pencil seems to go against the general assumption that all wax-based pencils are soft. I use the Prismacolor Verithin for very fine detail on coloured pencil drawings. They are great for drawing crisp lines – particularly lines that have been drawn with a softer wax-based pencil.
