Is the dragon book good compilers?

Is engineering a compiler a good book?

I love this book! I have (or had) about 7 compiler books, and this was always my favourite (another notable is Programming Language Pragmatics, and also perhaps Modern Compiler Design in X). For beginners, this book rocks. It’s readable, very well written, and very easy to follow.

Is Dragon Book outdated?

It is not just heavy, it is mostly outdated and irrelevant. It’s fairly heavy in lexing and parsing theory, especially around finite automata, pushdown automata, etc. It’s the kind of book you might want to read if you’re reimplementing yacc.

Is the dragon book worth reading?

Don’t read only the Dragon book if you’re interested in compilers (or parsing in general). But it should be read, in addition to whatever else you read on the subject. It’s classic for a reason. Most programmers don’t understand parsing worth a crap, imho.
