What is it like to major in journalism?

Journalism students have to hustle. Journalism has traditionally been seen as a major for students with some sense of financial security, especially since finding a job after graduation isn’t a guarantee. And with traditional newsroom jobs shrinking, students especially must advocate for themselves.

My “journalistic passion” is social journalism, which is a style of journalism I dove deep into at CUNY. It tasks journalists to listen and immerse themselves in a community rather to simply parachute in for quotes, etc.
