The first reason why so many IITians prefer non-core jobs is that non-core jobs are more compared to core jobs so it is a basic demand-supply thing. Core companies are less compared to non-core companies. Secondly, Core jobs require high CGPA as far I have seen placements so far barring few exceptions.
