How does gravity and friction work when flying a kite?

How does gravity and friction work when flying a kite?

The force of weight pulls the kite toward the center of the Earth. Drag is caused by the difference in air pressure between the front and back of the kite and the friction of the air moving over the surface of the kite. To launch a kite into the air the force of lift must be greater than the force of weight.

Are kites hard to fly?

Kite flying is great fun – and it’s easy when you know how. You can’t see it, but it’s very difficult to fly a kite well in turbulent wind. So stay far away from obstacles that cause turbulence. The “rule of turbulence” is that wind will be bumpy for ten times as far downwind as an obstacle is high.

What type of friction is a kite?

Drag occurs when there is a difference of air pressure between the front and back of a kite. It’s a type of friction that happens as air moves over the kite’s surface.

Can I fly kites today?

Kites can be flown at any time of the year as long as the wind is right. It is recommended that you observe the wind range for your type of kite. Do not fly a kite on days when the wind is too strong for the type of kite you are flying. This will only damage the kite.

How do you interact with your kite?

Not only to see your kite you interact with it directly as you provide the input, and you receive feedback through the lines from the kite. In a counterintuitive way, this is a really grounded experience or maybe a better way to describe it is like a dance where you and your partner respond to each other with each step!

Do you prefer kites or screens?

1) Kites are low tech – what I mean is they are flown by mechanical means (i.e., lines) and not via screens or joysticks. Truth be told I have way more screen time than I need! For fear of turning into a bigger vidiot, and exacerbating the stress injury to my gaming thumbs I prefer kites!
