How does a diesel inline fuel pump work?

How does a diesel inline fuel pump work?

An Injection Pump is the device that pumps fuel into the cylinders of a diesel engine. It rotates at half crankshaft speed in a conventional four-stroke diesel engine. Its timing is such that the fuel is injected only very slightly before top dead centre of that cylinder’s compression stroke.

How does a high pressure diesel fuel pump work?

High-pressure fuel pumps are mechanical and are typically driven by a camshaft. A lobe on the camshaft pushes on a follower or roller that moves a piston. The piston in the pump has two cycles, suction and compression.

How is fuel delivered to the engine?

From the pump to the tanks the gas travels through the fuel pump. The pump sends fuel from the gas tank to the engine. Some vehicles are equipped with multiple gas tanks and even multiple fuel pumps. The pump forces fuel through the fuel lines that deliver fuel from the tank to the engine for combustion.

What is a inline pump?

What Is an Inline Pump? Inline pumps (otherwise referred to as straight-line pumps) are a variety of centrifugal pumps whose suction and discharge connections rest in a straight line of piping or are kept with each other inside of the casing. The flow of fluids does not change within an inline pump.

Where is the fuel return line?

Some fuel return hoses will run along the frame of the vehicle and go straight to the fuel tank with little as possible bends. Other fuel return lines have many bends and may be longer than normal. This helps the fuel cool down prior to entering the fuel tank.

Where does fuel return line go?

The return line should direct fuel close to the bottom of the tank and away from the pickup.

How does a fuel pump works?

The basic way your modern electrical fuel pump works is by utilizing a DC motor in the pump assembly which draws in the fuel sitting in your gas tank. From there, it sends it up the fuel line and into the fuel rail where it can be injected into a cylinder. It then mixes with air and a spark to create combustion.

What is fuel delivery module?

The fuel delivery module is essentially a combined in tank fuel pump and level sensor. The unit contains a motorised pump, pump controller and fuel level sensor. The fuel pump controller communicates with the vehicle’s ECU and operates the fuel pump to deliver fuel along fuel lines to the engine on demand.
