How do you tell if a guitar has been refinished?

How do you tell if a guitar has been refinished?

Look for finish in the neck/body joint, or evidence of sanding. If the neck is removed, a step in the body wood (indicating sanding after the neck was installed) or discontinuous finish are clues of a refinish. Any finish filling in dents or dings could be from refinish, overspray, or lacquer touch up.

Does refinishing a guitar affect its value?

Refinish is NOT good to the value of the guitar, desk or chair, etc. It generally just kills the worth of the piece since the originality is gone. In some instances, some restoration work greatly enhances the value of the item, such as a restored automobile.

A: The seller is right that a neck reset can change the tone of a vintage guitar. Neck angle not only regulates action but also affects mechanical forces that load and drive a top. It’s well known that ’30s-era Martins and Gibsons sometimes lose tone after neck resetting.

Why are my pickups not working properly?

Since you’re getting no sound at all, the chances are that the pickups are fine, but some component that the signal from both pickups passes through has failed. A master volume, or a master tone and the pickup selector switch would be good places to look. Follow the non-ground wire from the jack back through the circuit.

How to test a pickup with a multimeter?

Dig out your multimeter, and set it for resistance (ohms). 20 kω should be about right, if your multimeter needs a range setting. Try connecting it to the two wires of the pickup; if you measure infinite resistance, you managed to destroy your pickup somehow, probably by breaking a wire in it.
