How Does AT Fiber Internet Work? Cable internet works like cable TV, by using a coaxial cable to transmit data from the provider to your home. Coaxial cables can transmit both TV and internet signals at the same time. Fiber internet, on the other hand, uses fiber optic cable that transmits light.

The green data cable provided by att is a 2 pair phone type cable. Any phone type cable may or may not work. A cat5 cable with an rj45 connector plugs into the yellow ports on the gateway. These cables should work as a replacement for the green data cable.

When you connect to the AT network you will get a Dynamic WAN address. The Dynamic WAN address is then associated with your static IP and acts as a gateway for the static IP addresses to reach the network. AT doesn’t automatically assign static IP addresses to devices connected to the Dynamic WAN.
Are data cables and phone cables the same?
The current standards for data cable are CAT5, CAT5E, CAT6, and CAT6A. They also make great phone cable. As you go up in category, the cable gets better through either thicker wire and/or tighter twists that reduce interference. That helps with data transmissions and doesn’t hurt when it is used as phone wire.
Does AT use phone line?
AT High Speed Internet is available on any qualified existing or additional phone line. DSL technology doesn’t interfere with voice or fax transmission on any qualified line.
Do you have to have a phone jack for AT internet?
AT Internet does require an Ethernet jack in your wall. This will be how your Gateway connects to our network, which will then let you connect to the internet through Wi-Fi. If you don’t have an active wall jack or need a new one installed, one of our technicians can install them for you.
