Can you overuse hashtags?
Table of Contents
When you overuse hashtags, it can be confusing for your audience and could even put your brand in a negative light. After all, hashtags aren’t just for show. When used correctly, they can really give your brand a major boost on certain social media platforms.
Within a caption, it’s recommended to use 1-3 hashtags. If you enter more hashtags as the first comment, then up to 30 hashtags would be acceptable. However, this is not to say that you should use 30 hashtags for every post.
How many hashtags are you allowed?
30 hashtags
Don’t over hashtag In fact, research has found that the optimal number of hashtags per post is 11. While Instagram allows you to use up to 30 hashtags per post, your time is better spent researching and using a handful of super effective hashtags rather than stockpiling a ton of tags per post.
Even though hashtags aren’t as cool as they used to be, they’re not dead in the water just yet. If people aren’t paying attention to the text anyway, it probably doesn’t hurt to include hashtags. Hashtagging won’t hurt you; it just may not be your greatest marketing asset like it once was.
So less hashtags had more Reach for this account, but drastically lower Likes. Remember that a large amount of people that will find and hopefully engage with your content with a Like or Comment will do so via search using the hashtags. From my studies putting the 30 hashtags in the original post is the way to go.
