Can you fail Ranger School?

Failing to pass the tests of RAP week is the biggest reason soldiers fail out of Ranger School, topping all other failures at 62\%. There is no Ranger School standard or quota as many believe. Students are graded against Army standards. Students fail because they have never been held to these standards.

What happens if you pass Ranger School?

Upon completion of the grueling Ranger School, graduates are awarded a Ranger Tab to wear on their uniform that says “Ranger” and denotes the wearer’s successful completion of the program. You can be assigned to the Ranger Regiment after completing RASP, and still never go on to complete Ranger School.

Ranger School is the Army’s premier leadership school, and is open to all members of the military, regardless of whether they have served in the 75th Ranger Regiment or completed RASP.

How long is Ranger School?

Many confuse Ranger School and the Ranger Regiment, but Ranger School is a 61-day training course that focuses on leadership and small-unit tactics. Split up into three phases, Darby, Mountains, and Florida, Ranger students conduct squad- and platoon-level patrols and are graded by Ranger instructors when they are selected for leadership positions.

Although Rangers are strongly associated with the Army, many are not aware that the school is also attended by some Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps personnel.

Do Ranger students have to do jumps during the course?

The vast majority of Ranger students have already completed Airborne School and make multiple jumps during the course. A small number of students have entered and completed Ranger School without being Airborne qualified. These individuals completed tasks assigned by cadre while their classmates complete the jumps.

Why do so many soldiers fail Ranger School?

If Ranger School was a leadership school, poor leadership skills would be expected to be the cause of most failures, but they aren’t. Only 40 percent of the soldiers who undertake the course pass.
