Can space/time be folded?

Can space/time be folded?

“We know that space can be bent. Spacetime, however, is the combined concepts of space and time into a four-dimensional continuum. You may have even seen spacetime portrayed as a fabric, manipulated by energy. If spacetime can be bent, Beacham continued, it’s theoretically possible that time can be bent.

Will we ever create a wormhole?

A wormhole is effectively just a tunnel that connects two places in the Universe. So far scientists have simulated this process, but are nowhere near creating a gravitational wormhole, as it would require us to create huge amounts of gravitational energy – something we don’t yet know how to do.

Has a wormhole ever been found?

Back in 2015, researchers in Spain created a tiny magnetic wormhole for the first time ever. They used it to connect two regions of space so that a magnetic field could travel ‘invisibly’ between them. A wormhole is effectively just a tunnel that connects two places in the Universe.

How hard is it to build a wormhole?

Easy-peasy. In principle, building a wormhole is pretty straightforward. According to Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity, mass and energy warp the fabric of space-time. And a certain special configuration of matter and energy allows the formation of a tunnel, a shortcut between two otherwise distant portions of the universe.

Why can’t we open a wormhole in outer space?

It’s not a perfect solution: Eventually the inherent vibrations in the cosmic strings — the same ones that might keep the wormhole open — pull energy, and therefore mass, away from the string, making it smaller and smaller.

Can we create a wormhole with a negative mass?

OK, matter with negative mass doesn’t exist, so we need a new plan. Let’s start with the wormhole itself. We need an entrance and an exit. It’s theoretically possible to connect a black hole (a region of space where nothing can escape) to a white hole (a theoretical region of space where nothing can enter).

What would happen if a town was created by a wormhole?

The town would most definitely be destroyed by the tidal forces surrounding the wormhole. Anything near the wormhole would be either spaghettified or pancaked. You do realize, I hope, that there is not enough negative energy strolling around in our entire Solar system to create a wormhole.
