Let’s dive in! Until recently as already mentioned, most prison facilities across the U.S only allowed mails and phone calls. When they accepted electronic mail, the only option inmates and their loved ones had, was emailing inmates through either JPay or Access Corrections.

However, most will give inmates their messages from JPay at mail call. Different facilities have different rules as to how many times they have mail call during the week. Some people may prefer to send an email near when they have a mail call at the facility; it may help reduce the waiting time between correspondences with the inmate.

The release process for most prisons is pretty straightforward. On the day of their release, inmates are let out of their cells earlier than others. They then receive a set of “normal” clothes that they’ve tried on the day before to make sure it fits.

You may send cashier’s checks, money orders, and government checks, payable only to the inmate, for credit to an inmate’s account addressed to the inmate or just the jail. You may send cash, but we do not recommend it. We will not accept payroll, personal, business, or two-party checks.
