Is walking meditation as effective as sitting?

Walking meditation is excellent for maintaining mental clarity and focus while being in constant motion. For some I see it as being a more difficult form of regular sitting meditation – I never meditate with a clear head though, much less difficult when you have a focal point.

Walk more slowly than your normal pace, lifting and placing your foot with each slow breath. Feel your heel, ball of your foot and toes slowly touch the ground.

A higher level of comfort means that you’ll be able to relax more completely, and are more likely to enter into a deep state of meditation, in which your mind releases its grip on your thoughts.

Is it bad to sit cross-legged while meditating?

For many people, sitting cross-legged will, (at a minimum) cause your leg to fall asleep, and probably cause your back to hunch. That means you’ll be more likely to fidget during your meditation, breaking the stillness you’ve been working hard to develop.
