While the Underdark of the Forgotten Realms was growing and evolving throughout the 1990s, the idea of an Underdark was also becoming ubiquitous in other D&D settings—from Greyhawk to the caverns of The Illithiad sourcebook (1998), from the world of Birthright to the Labyrinth of Madness adventure (1995).
