Do I need 2 inch eyepieces?

Do I need 2 inch eyepieces?

2″ Eyepieces vs. It’s a matter of lens size needed, not optical quality. You only need a 2″ size eyepiece when you are exploring for low magnification eyepieces with wide fields of view. You do not need a 2″ barrel on a short focal length eyepiece, even on the very finest 1.25″ short focal length eyepiece.

What is the difference between a 2 inch and 1.25 inch eyepiece?

A 2″ eyepiece will have a larger field stop than a 1.25″ giving you a wider field of view. Typically this would be for eyepieces 30 – 40mm focal length. Usually you only need one eyepiece in this range for your lowest power views.

What can you see with a 25mm telescope eyepiece?

25mm – 30.9mm Telescope Eyepieces: These are extended field eyepieces for longer focal length – good for large nebula and open clusters. For shorter focal length, they are fantastic for large objects such as the Orion nebula, views of the full lunar disc, large open clusters and more.

What is a Plossl eyepiece?

The Plössl is an eyepiece usually consisting of two sets of doublets, designed by Georg Simon Plössl in 1860. Since the two doublets can be identical this design is sometimes called a symmetrical eyepiece. The compound Plössl lens provides a large 50° or more apparent field of view, along with relatively large FOV.

Why do people have two eyepieces?

2″ eyepieces often provide a wider field of view and brighter images. These eyepieces are perfect for viewing large patches of the sky where large and/or dim objects can be observed.

Are Plossl eyepieces any good?

Plössl eyepieces are good all-around performers, producing sharp images at the center of the field, but they have only four lens elements. Better edge correction with a short-focus telescope is one of the things you pay extra money for, and sophisticated eyepiece designs have as many as eight elements.
