What have you learned being in a relationship?
When you’re in a good relationship, you learn things. You act differently and you think as part of a team — not as an individual making their way through the world. You’ll be more understanding and accepting of your partner, instead of just getting frustrated with them, like you may have with past relationships.
What lesson in love should you have learned by now?
Love doesn’t play the victim role or blame others. Love doesn’t think others are “out to get them.” Love doesn’t think their loved ones are wrong. Love works together. It takes responsibility. It forgives and allows other people’s actions to be their journey.
What is the most important relationship skill you’ve learned in life and why?
Communication. It’s an obvious one, but bears repeating: communication is one of the most important skills in any relationship. Being able to clearly and consistently state how you’re feeling will mean that those little niggles that might otherwise develop into something worse can be resolved early on.
Should you have to teach someone how do you love you?
You do need to teach your partner what you want. But you shouldn’t have to keep teaching them. Be a real person, in a real relationship, and tell your partner what you want, what you need, and what you’re looking for. That’s how you get a healthy, happy love story that lasts a lifetime.
